A friend had her fic reposted on a site (that she doesn't care for) her name was left on the work, but you'd have to look to see that the poster had not created the fic.
When she politely asked for the work to be taken down, the person responded with 'you should be flattered that I want your work to be seen (despite the fact the friend has her work in numerous archives, journals etc.) and as a writer, you should expect that people will take your work and repost it - and it is inferred - be grateful for it.'
WTF WTF WTF
Part of posting is getting FEEDBACK, and when people repost work, you get fuckall. And I've seen the comments where people think the poster made the work, and they are not forthcoming that they've reposted.
Where the hell does this attitude come from? It's expected, so go along with it. Or even, be grateful for it. Sharing work online Does Not Equate to give it away so that other people can take credit for it.
And there are consequences of these actions, people, authors and artists LEAVE fandoms where their work is misappropriated, so if you like the work LINK TO IT.
