It's pretty amazing that the NHK (Japanese National Television) has put on an epic period drama each year for 50 years. The shows often comprise 50 episodes - taking up the span of a year, giving the viewers a chance to get to know the cast (often of hundreds) and become very invested in the story. The costuming, sets and live action filming are always remarkable. In this video, there is a retrospective where you can see the drama clips in 3-D, (you can see a clip of GACKT as Uesugi Kenshin in Fuurin Kazan - 2007) view costumes and even see what you would look like in period garb.
