My son hates having his fingernails cut, for the longest time he picked at his nails and chewed on them, but the way we got around this was painting his nails. I get lots of inexpensive nail polishes in vivid colours, and paint each nail a different colour, which gives a real fun kid like look, and you know, not a single person has ever given him grief about it, the comments have been 'cool nails dude, are you a rock star?' and now he doesn't mind when we clip his nails and he doesn't bite them. And I'm thinking showing him how to paint his own nails will help on the fine motor skills.
