get to the local CW station for FREE SWAG
I was taking my friend to the impound lot, where her car got towed after a snow emergency, and on the way I spotted the local CW station (St. Paul). I said, hey, let's go in there and see if they have any promo stuff, cos if I get a poster of Sam and Dean I would be Best Mom Ever.
Everyone at the station were really friendly (they love great feedback) and they gave us A TON of posters and swag (like tote bags and coasters) for Supernatural, and other CW shows that my spouse likes, Arrow and Nikita, etc. (so my friend felt a bit better after having to pay $200 towing fine) We had interesting discussions about tv programming and how it's difficult to measure viewership with Neilson ratings alone, etc. (they had framed pics of Jensen and Jared near the front desk!) I asked if I could blog about coming to visit and they said sure, it's fun to meet fans of the shows.
But a great way to get promo stuff - like the facebook of your local station, they post events and contests all the time, along with local charities that they support, so it's a win-win for everyone.
