In a nutshell 'feminist' author Caitlin Moran, a fangirl of Benedict Cumberbatch, was chosen to host the Q and A event, and encouraged Martin Freeman and Benedict to read aloud from a slash fanfic - after telling the actors it was nothing explicit - though the actors stopped reading when they got to the kissing scene. Caitlin then slagged on the fan fic author's work.

From all accounts, Moran was unprepared at the event, asking for ideas via her twitter on the cab ride over, pissed off the production team of Sherlock by mentioning (among other things) Martin hired his 'wife' for a role. To the point that the fans being mocked has overwhelmed the discussion about THE SHOW. Moran was taken to task after the event by the head of BBC Drama, and hopefully, won't be asked back again.

Me, I think its strange to divert attention from a show people have been waiting 2 years for, with both stars of the showing coming off of big mainstream movies, and have nothing to talk about but fandom - being that a show and it's fan following are two different universes, as far as I'm concerned.

And as most people know, fanfic is largely female, written for a female audience, and in her writings, Ms Moran has promoted an idea of women being in a safe space free to be themselves - I mean, unless you happen to be a slash fan author.
