Sherlock noticed that when John bounced up the seventeen steps to 221B Baker Street he was in a good mood. The consulting detective arranged himself so he was lying across the sofa, facing the doorway, his hands clasped in his familiar 'thinking pose' under his chin.

Doctor Watson stepped through the door with a bright beaming smile and a yellow plastic carrier bag emblazoned with the Tower Records logo.

"Guess what I've got!" He said in a sing-song voice, pulling the pink and black CD out of the bag before Sherlock could make a deduction.

Knowing that John would expect him to reply in his usual manner (critical, disdainful, BORED) Sherlock complied.

"You hold in your hand the latest musical effort by your favorite pop group for which you still have life-sized posters, a faded satin jacket with numerous badges, and the current fanclub membership card in your wallet is laminated."

"All true," John replied, his eyes sparkling as he handed over the CD case, as Sherlock had an ability to remove the insane wrapping in less than an hour.

The doctor bounced on his heels. "Hurry up with that."

"Steady on." Sherlock hid a smile as he scraped a fingernail along the top of the shrink-wrapped cellophane. "You could have just downloaded the file for this online weeks ago."

"Not the same," John said. "If I still had a turntable I'd be buying vinyl."

Sherlock nodded, "I do agree, there are distinct aesthetic differences between analog and digital recording." The detective succeeded in freeing the disc from its case and held it out to his friend, carefully holding the CD by its edges.

John took the disc in both hands with reverence and walked the few steps over to the ancient (by Sherlock's standards) stereo balanced on the bookshelf.

"Why don't you put on the headphones?" Sherlock suggested as the bass beat of the first song began to shake the skull on the mantel.

"No, no, I want you to hear track 13, it has some great violin work, and maybe you'd like 'Leave a Light On'."

Sherlock grumbled enough to keep his aloof persona intact, crossing his arms and scowling, which did not remove the grin from his flatmate in the slightest. Had John Watson been playing anything that he truly detested, he would have just thrown on his coat and scarf and gone off to bother Lestrade.

But music was important and John being happy was important, and the fact that Sherlock had a crush on Simon Le Bon would remain hidden - from anyone but Mycroft Holmes - the consulting detective had enough evidence on his brother's infatuation with Kylie Minogue to be assured that it would stay a secret.
