Sherlock Girl and my reactions:
It was hard to get to sleep because it made me so jumpy, she says.
It’s a fun adventure romp that was in parts, scary and atmospheric I says.
She’s read Hound and seen other film versions, so she explained the plot to me ‘It’s really two different stories, the name Baskerville wasn’t for this ‘royal’ family (she means noble) it was for this government base and they were drugging people so there wasn’t a real dog. (and I mentioned there was a dog that the pub owners had running around to bring in tourists, but it didn’t have red eyes, etc.) But she liked it. She wanted to stay home and watch it again but I said, sorry got to go to school!
I liked it to, lots of Sherlock and John interaction, I twigged that they were being drugged in some fashion, and like Sherlock, thought it was the sugar. I loved lots of bits of canon - the harpoon, mention of a 7% solution - and the non bits of canon, the reason for the Cluedo board stabbed to the wall in Scandal, BLUEBELL, Mind Palaces, I thought Russel Tovey did a great job, as did Martin, and Ben, natch, though some little bits veered into absurd comedy (Sherlock inhaling the second hand smoke) it’s all fine. It’s a fun adventure romp that was in parts, scary and atmospheric. *let me note at the near end SHERLOCK YOU BASTARD* John is a soldier and he knows where you live.
When I saw the minefield my first thought was oh god, won’t it be great if Sherlock has to deduce himself and John out of that! Alas, it wasn’t to happen, but in fact, I don’t know if you could deduce yourself out of a minefield!
