Oh and one day attendance at the Supernatural cons are about $50-60 per person, it's better to get the weekend package (all three days) but that's over $300 per person, gets you into all the events, and I think free autographs, but then you'd have to count your room which I think are $169 a night, if staying in the hotel, and all four of us would go, etc.The three day tickets for SPN Chicago are sold out already.
Oh I wanted to say, Jared and Jensen and the other guys will sign anything you want (snicker) you don't have to buy something for them to sign. And seeing some of the con pics, they have no problems with hugging people, or um, pretending to shoot or stab them, etc.
*LOL* That makes it worth it right there. I love it when they're like that. Voltaire is like that. He's one of the few I've stood in line for and he takes time with every single person. And the MST3K crew, but then for them it's a local thing.
Wow, and I thought the ParaCons were spendy. Right now, if you get your ticket before May 15th, Convergence is $60 for the whole weekend (4 days) and rooms are $109 a night. Then all you pay for is dealer's room, food (but they have a conSuite and we bring a cooler), and if you want autographs for the few that charge for it.
Crypticon tickets wind up being around $100 for the weekend (you can buy them in parts or packages depending what you want to do) and rooms are $89 night. Don's Apocalyptic Chili Feed is free *LOL* But I know that the guests there do charge for autograph/pics.
I'm surprised more don't at Convergence, though, cause I know they're not getting paid to be there. From what I understand is they will pick up the airfare/hotel, a budget for food and an "Assistant" while they're at the Con, but that's about it. Granted we don't get a lot of Big Names, but we get a lot of great authors and returning guests. Some of them come if they're asked or not, just cause they have so much fun.
I'm still trying to figure out how they got Brit from TAPS to come for a day a few years ago (Rhiannon just about went out of her head). It was last minute, announced just before the Con started. I'm thinking my friend Scotty had something to do with it, but when I ask he just smirks and won't say.
I'm slowly trying to get a Con going here in St. Cloud...but it's very slow going. I'm thinking if we could even get a one day one just to start. But this is a tough town to get anything new going in.
Local cons sound great, certainly more affordable, I don't know that I could deal with huge events like Comicicon.
Back in college I went to the con that became Convergence, (this is 20 years back) but I've never been to a con since. Money, time, etc.
I do like the idea of attending a con with multiple fandoms, I know there is a group getting together a Britcon in Bloomington, they have a facebook page, it's a first year, so I don't know how it's gonna go.
