Dean Winchester dammed his eternal soul to save his brothers life, yet before he could become a demon, he was rescued from Hell by an angel. The angel Castiel breathed life back into Dean, remaking his body and leaving a scar in the shape of a handprint on Dean's shoulder as a mark of their profound bond. Castiel befriended Dean, and believed in him, and was cast out of Heaven. As a fallen angel, Castiel died to protect Dean and his brother Sam many times, yet each time he was brought back through the bond they share, as long as Dean Winchester exists, on Earth, in Heaven or Hell or Purgatory, Castiel will not die.
