So... the Supernatural Spin off series
(spoilers)
supposedly deals with a brand new character introduced in episode 20 (near the end) of SPN's season, not a spin-off involving a beloved character (like say any of the people I would watch for: ie Charlie, Castiel, Kevin and Linda Tran, Benny, Crowley,
Rather than travel around the US - which is one of the things I've loved about SPN, the stories will be sent around demons and angels in ... Chicago!
Maybe because Chicago is easier to emulate in Vancouver than LA or Vegas.
Vegas seems appropriate when talking about angels and demons, or DC.
Though I'm sort of grateful none of the 3 out of the 4 'spin-off' style episodes of last season passed muster, they must not have been very popular with the majority of fans.
Me thinks J2 want to get to season ten then stop, and I can't really see Misha wanting to keep going without them, or even to his own show, but I would watch Charlie's Angel, with Charlie and Cas, and guest J2.

Okay, I wasn't watching for "spin-off" episodes. Are you talking about the one with the Scooby Gang of young hunters? Or the one with the blond werewolf walking off into the sunset?

the spin off episodes (or it seemed that way) were
the teenage werewolves
the baby demon hunters including Krissy Chambers
the witchcop and his familiar who turned into a dog
Aaron and his Golem
in each of these eps, the focus was not on Sam and Dean, and were more about expanding the spn universe and it's rules, but other than the Judah Initative and the Thule Society (connected to the Men of Letters) I didn't care about werewolves, or these werewolves and their lame love triangle. I still don't know why Sam and Dean let her go.
the baby hunters was trying to set up this idea that you could have a normal life going to school and hunt on the side, very Buffy-esque, but that show did it first and did it better, and the whole premise of spn is that hunters are engaged due to personal tragedy and it's a craptastic lifestyle that no one would want, so it's more heroic to be a hunter and not a lifestyle choice.
Which brings me back to the truly regrettable and excerable witchcop episode, where a guy who supposedly saved Sam and Dean discovers the world of the supernatural and decides, of all things, to be a witch, and so far in spn universe, witches had always been bad news and had to be killed, because their powers came from demon deals. Other than the fact the witches hung out in clubs (giving a very lame Charmed episode feel) the whole deal with the female dog character was just so badly thought out, I still shudder recalling that ep) But yeah, the cop here just made a lifestyle choice to be a witch, which doesn't have the depth or resonance of Sam and Dean's mission, or even Aaron and his Golem, or the Men of Letters.
One of the reasons Sam and Dean are so relateable to fans, they don't use magic powers (they have a few magic weapons) but they are human beings, so they could be us, if you give them too many supernatural abilities, they aren't as intriguing.
