Shiny!

yes very! I did not know it was so shiny. And it seems more golden than peach, but (shrug) I got such a good price on it, and I've been watching it for over a year. I think the collectible colours in Fire King are Jadeite. But I saw a bowl (only the bowl) oh, over a decade ago in an antique store and always wanted to get one.

Wow, that takes me back! I collect bits & pieces of the earlier Japanese luster glazed china.
You know not to put any luster dishes in the dishwasher, right? Like lead crystal, the smallest bit of grit flying around under the water pressure will ultimately dull it.

yeah, I don't have a dishwasher! So not a problem. :D

That is quite something! I've never seen anything like that before. I'm imagining the bowl steaming with something seasonal and delicious!

I'm glad you have these for yourself - clever karasanta!

I guess what I like about this set is this brand Fire-King was so inexpensive back in the day, you sometimes got a free mug in a bag of flour, that kind of thing, I think the entire set maybe retailed for $6 in 1950. Even know I don't think you'd call them a very expensive collectible, because there is a lot of this stuff out there. I've seen sets go for $200 but I got mine for $45!

Actually, fire king is a really collectible item in Japan, they love the Jadeite color (made popular by Martha Stewart) because Jade is a lucky color, and in 2000 they started making more, so you gotta watch if you want to buy vintage that it's not the reproduction.

I might get a few serving plates in this color, but not a whole set, it would be too blinding!

But not if it's covered in food ;=)
