so i’m over at poll voting, and once and a while I check on the comments, expecting to see a little my fandom vs your fandom, but it seems there is actually more of people in the same fandom, but different ships, going back and forth with the hate.
Yeah, after a decade in fandom, I should know better. But here is the thing, fandom is supposed to be fun.
So my opinion is, to each their own. No one by creating their personal vision of how they see the characters or wish to see them or just playing with them goes out of their way to step on or dismiss or diminish your personal view.
It’s like Heaven in Supernatural canon, instead of a place, everyone lives within their favorite memory. Now sometimes, with soulmates, they can enter into each other’s personal heaven, or even join them up, but it’s more a collection of thousands of places than one place.
So you and your friends are in Destiel-land, and Sassy-land, Harry-Draco-land, whatever, but what is the POINT of hating on someone else’s private Idaho? It’s not gonna change their mind and most of all, the canon created by the author, the musician, the director does not change. Tolkien’s work will keep keeping on, despite all the fanfiction written around it, slash or het or whatever.
So discuss things yeah, for fun, but spending time just hating and not just the character but even the actor embodying it, that’s not gonna make people wonder about their ship, but what personal issue you’ve got going on.
