too soon? Anywhoo, here are my top ten picks, you can pick your own but these are mine.
1. EVERYBODY HATES HITLER - (Edlund) Sam and Dean meet Aaron and his Golem, a supernatural creature gifted to Aaron by his grandfather, but Aaron does not know how to control the Golem, when Sam and Dean are hunted by the Thule Society, a group of necromancer Nazis, Aaron accepts his responsibilities to save them.
2. CITIZEN FANG - (Loflin) Benny is trying to lead the straight and narrow, but Dean's conflict with Sam boils over, causing old hunting colleague Martin to try to kill Benny, using his innocent granddaughter as bait.
3. SACRIFICE - (Carver) Season ender, Sam attempts to complete the trials closing the Gates to Hell, at the same time Castiel and Dean attempt the trials to close the Gates of Heaven to keep angels from interfering on Earth.
4. AS TIME GOES BY - (Glass) Sam and Dean discover their long-lost grandfather Henry Winchester in the closet of their motel room, running from Abaddon, the Knight of Hell. Henry introduces the brothers to the Men of Letters, a secret society for gathering information on monsters, and leaves them the legacy of the MOL headquarters, a hidden bunker of supernatural knowledge.
5. HUNTERI HEROICI - (Dabb) amidst the tomfoolery of being in a cartoon universe, we get some introspective moments from Sam (who is struggling with leaving hunting behind) and Castiel (newly back from Purgatory and trying to find a way to atone for the damage he did to Heaven as Godstiel)
6. CLIP SHOW - (Dabb) Sam and Dean find their purpose as hunters put in jeopardy as Crowley threatens to kill everyone they have ever saved unless they turn over the Demon Tablet and promise to stop the trials to close the Gates of Hell.
7. GOODBYE STRANGER - (Thompson) Castiel is confronted by a choice, to side with the angels, or take the side of humanity, by not allowing Naomi to control him, and making it his mission to protect the Angel Tablet. Chilling for it's depiction of a thousand dead Deans. Goodbye to Meg, longest running character on the show with the exception of Sam and Dean.
8. BLOOD BROTHER - (Edlund) Benny, Dean's vampire pal from Purgatory, asks Dean to travel with him on a mission of revenge, for the vampire who sired him, and then killed his human lover. Loved for it's lighter moments, including Dean's mention of 'vampirates' and Dean and Sam bitching at each other over the phone during a hunt.
9. PAC MAN FEVER - (Thompson) the character of Charlie comes into her own as an honorary Winchester and the Woman of Letters.
10. TRIAL AND ERROR - (Dabb) After learning of the Trials needed to close the Gates of Hell, Sam and Dean hunt a hellhound, Sam takes on the trials, and gives a rousing speech to Dean about 'seeing a light' at the end of the tunnel, and taking Dean with him, and after a half season of being at odds, the brothers join up again.
