JJ Abrams fail

So, complaints about Eve's gratuitous underwear scene in Star Drek Into Darkness have promoted director Abrams to appear on Conan to admit, yeah, scene wasn't really necessary, and hey, here is a nude scene of Benedict Cumberbatch that was supposed to be in the film but we cut it because it was gratuitous ... meh.

see, what I don't get is people saying, oh this makes up for it, when nooooo, it's not in the film, that's the point. And people had to bitch about it before you even got the point. And you are still not getting the point!

What's the difference between "wasn't really necessary" and "gratuitous," J.J.? His logic is hurting my brain.

There are some aspects of the classic Star Trek that we don't need to bring back. The rampant sexism is one of them.

There is no difference! Haha, but they certainly didn't expect to be called out on it, like they were. You know, Star Trek was not as sexist as shows of it's day, yes the woman wore miniskirts, but at the time this was considered modern and empowering, in control of themselves and sexuality, and Gene Roddenbery wanted to have an episode where Uhura took the Captain's chair, but much of what he wanted to do was shot down by Paramount. Yeah, there were the ladies painted Green ...

Hm, thank you. I forgot about GR wanting Uhura to have more power befitting her rank, and about what miniskirts meant in the 1960's.

Of course, the ratio of female skin bared to male skin bared has always been unbalanced. But I hoped Abrams understood it would be a good idea to titillate the female fans (and gay male fans) too. Either strip down both genders, or keep everyone clothed.

I do love that the fans called him on it. Maybe he'll take that into consideration next time.
