Palin put Arizona Congresswoman into the Crosshairs.

Gabrielle Gifford, a democratic centrist congresswoman now in the hospital as the result of an assassination attempt (which killed six including a Federal Judge and a nine year old girl) had her office vandalized a few hours after the House voted to approve the health care law in March, with someone either kicking or shooting out a glass door and window.

In an interview after the vandalism, Giffords referred to the animosity against her by conservatives. Sarah Palin listed Giffords' seat as one of the top "targets" in the midterm elections because of the lawmakers' support for the health care law.

Gifford said in an interview with MSNBC - "We're on Sarah Palin's targeted list, the way that she has it depicted has the crosshairs of a gun sight over our district. When people do that, they have to realize that there are consequences to that action,"

Sarah Palin grew criticism when she first released the target list in Marc 2010 with some speculating it may prompt unbalanced individuals to act out. Sarah Palin had tweeted with the target list, “Don’t retreat, instead Reload.”

*post edit* Ms. Palin’s team are currently scrubbing her Facebook page of all negative comments, blocking any users who haven’t pledged unequivocal support, even those who gently suggest that violent political rhetoric needs to be re-examined. she loves democracy.

Sickening. Where are we, Pakistan?? Y'know, I really underestimated Palin in the beginning. She may be undereducated, but she has enough grit and sheer meanness to make up for it all.

Yes,

this is what frustrates me the most, politicians who whip up the ideological rhetoric, yet take a step back and say 'oh I didn't intend that to happen' when people take them at thier word.

I didn't know about this since I've been away from news since yesterday, so I read up a bit on it just now.
I'll reserve my judgment on the shooting until more is known about the gunman, but the scary thing is that, as shocking as this is, it's not far-fetched for something like this to happen as a result of the ridiculous and hateful propaganda that keeps coming out of a bunch of greedy cowards and hypocrites on the right.

[identity profile] karadin.livejournal.com 2011-01-09 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly, used to be people realized if they whipped people up into a frenzy, some would act out, will this teach them to be more responsible? Probably not.

[identity profile] excused-early.livejournal.com 2011-01-09 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if the police find a direct connection between the gunman and Palin or any other right-wing nut, I'm sure there will be a change, at least on the surface and for a short while.

Too bad people have to die first.

Absolutely.

another second amendment solution.

so horrible on every level.

Just sick and furious about this. No, SP didn't put the gun in his hands, but she can't white wash what she did either.

[identity profile] karadin.livejournal.com 2011-01-09 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, that's the thing, the shooter attacked for whatever reason, but its the atmosphere that radio and tv pundits and some political figures have started that helps to create the situation - giving people the idea that violence changes the political system - there is no discourse any more, just ranting, which means, you've just run out of ideas.

Someone did make a comment I thought was apt, this shooter probably had mental problems that could not be addressed because he couldn't afford health care.

And she's an IDIOT if she thinks people won't remember what she put out on her blogs.

[identity profile] ashura-oh.livejournal.com 2011-01-09 11:23 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes I suspect she's a puppet put in place to draw people's attention on her while even worse shit goes on in the back.

[identity profile] karadin.livejournal.com 2011-01-09 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I think if she was a puppet she'd be better handled, and not make the stupid mistakes she does - I think people wanted to make her a puppet, but she goes her own way, and the lack of education and experience shows.

She's from Alaska. Still a frontier state where guns are as common as frying pans (and for a good read, check out www.stabenow.com; Dana Stabenow is an Alaskan mystery writer who is, in a word, awesome).

So...knowing what I know about Alaskans, and the info Dana Stabenow harvested from local papers about Palin and how she got to where she was (shudder...I am as qualified to run for VP as she is!), there is a stubborn, do-it-yourself streak permeating Alaskan culture. If you can't fix your own gear (truck, snow machine, plane, gun, furnace, chain saw), people will look down on you. Nobody up there will be "handled". I actually respect that trait. However, it explains a lot about SP: where she got the grit to get to where she is now, as well as how come she is such a loose cannon.

Didya know she got the idea of running for a Vasilla town commissioner in an aerobics class? Word got around...in a small town where everybody knows everybody, votes received election junk mail for the first time in their lives. She won, overreaching the budget by millions, spending the money on a gym instead of a water treatment plan (and she built the gym on a land which's title is under dispute, costing further millons in legal fees).
She caught the eye of the GOP, got snagged for some oil watchdog appointment, wasted further millions and gave a lot of jobs to her friends, then ran for governor. The rest is history.
If she wasn't so damn charismatic we wouldn't have this problem.

Anyhow. Off to work.

I'm sure being in Alaska has a lot to do with how she got where she is, but I think she's a transplant, anywho, she probably wouldn't have gotten to the governorship if there had not been a political scandal to take advantage of, and I'm not certain to this day why she gets the media coverage she does, more celeb than civil servant, after all, she's never finished a job she was elected for, the same as she went to five colleges before getting a degree.

Can someone assassinate her?

[identity profile] karadin.livejournal.com 2011-01-11 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
All we need to do is stop paying attention to her, that would be enough for me.

[identity profile] hideincarnate.livejournal.com 2011-01-11 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm this might work even better. If we all turn our backs to her, she might die from lack of public attention. Perhaps a death more fitting a beast of her nature.

I think it's clear I do not like Mrs. Palin. At ALL.
