You might have heard of congressional hearings (in the US) on radicalisation of Isalm. As an American, I'm not afraid of Islamic radicals as much as much larger religious groups, who engage in terrorist acts on a daily basis, killing doctors, bombing clinics, etc. etc.

Hearings on radicalization of all kinds would have suited us, just pointing a finger at the Islamic minority smacks of the McCarthy Red-scare. Look over here, so you won't pay attention to what else is going on.

Yes indeed. I look at my Muslim students and I worry not because of them but for them.

you are spot on. whatever happened to our famous freedoms?

Muslims are today's hippies or Jews or blacks, the convenient target "other" in the ages-old ploy of demagoguery. that this ancient, well-known, simple power-grabbing method even works in our society is a sad testament to the lack of education and consciousness of our people.

but it's true: they only need to attract the sympathy of about 30% of an angry, upset, distracted population, and financial backing from some utterly amoral right-wing oligarch with an agenda, (of which there is no shortage) and they've got themselves a seat at the tables of power.

Why not go after all radicals then? Because no one religion holds the title of most "radical." Go after specific crazy people, not their belief systems.
