You know, I've heard a lot this week about people who don't care about whatever issue, be it devastation in Japan, or Libya, or New Zealand, some of it is fatigue, some of it is plain apathy, 'I've got mine, I'm not affected, so it's not my problem'

All I can think of, sooner or later, something is going to happen to you, something someone else might think is minor, or not important, but it just guts you, and we all need someone to lean on yes? Maybe that's why I care, even if as one person, I can't do much. I want to share this song with you, listen to the lyrics.

Thanks Steve Winwood, and musicians, writers, artists everywhere, never let anyone say you don't provide something vital to living, articulation of hopes and dreams and just the power of positive feeling, for a change.

I agree...The world will only survive if we have empathy, compassion, love and respect for everyone in the world. As you say...a disaster or tragedy can take place anywhere, it's not just "somewhere else". Thanks for sharing this compassionate and much needed message!

It upsets me when people choose to disnegage with what is happening at the global level, because what happens impacts upon all of humanity/ I teach my students about connecting with the real world and realizing it is people who actively create change.

It was Enimem's daughter who posted a wonderful twitter saying if you can afford an iPad2 for $500, you can certainly afford to make a donation to help Japan and gave the information on how to do this.

By the way, I went to your store today and bought the baseball jersey and the 15 oz coffee mugs :) They look really wonderful and I look forward to my package in a couple of weeks. They were a lot easier to deal with than zazzle, as a Canadian consumer :)

What affects other countries, affects us. Each country is connected through the global economy. Japan's economy is going to take a hit from this natural disaster, and it will affect all of Japan's trading partners. That includes the USA, Canada, the UK, and so on and so forth.

I can distance myself from situations too. Especially when I was unemployed had no money to give. But that's where fandom run charities stepped up to the plate, holding auctions for donations. I can draw. I can write. So if I offer something for 10 bucks, somebody out there will bid on it.

And they have. The only offer I made that never received a bit was for help_brazil, and that could have been my fault - I might have posted the offer after auctions had all ended. =/

yep, I can't afford to give a lot personally, but I can make things and help organize other people, and volunteering locally frees up money for aid outside of the US. Luckily, I live in MN, which is the state in the US that has the most charitable giving, the most theaters, the largest NPR and PBS stations.

Frankly, I feel sorry for the people who can't see past their own noses.

I am interested in giving at the National Cherry Blossom Festival, but we'll see. I've donated in small ways on my own, and then I have technically 7 offers up on help_japan.

I love PBS.

Yeah. Sadly, there's a bit too many of them the world over.
