That abortion law pisses me off. It really does. Both the underlying assumption that women have to be *told* to think (or otherwise they won't, presumably) about a decision like this, and then that this essentially hugely complicates the rights of women who live far away in mostly rural areas.

Funny how coercion isn't a problem when it's talking women out of having an abortion.

I still make 75% of what a man of my rank does at my uni and we have our faculty union stats that show across our uni, women make far less than men of equitable rank do. The faculty women challenge their salaries every year (me too) to try and get us up to par with male salaries. I keep a ton of stats on women in education and it's not positive either.

As my women's collective t-shirt said: "We haven't come far,a nd don't call us baby!"

This was in the day of the Virgina Slims ads, which dates me :)

Thanks for this post and the links - this is important for people to be thinking about regardless of where they live.

Just read an article saying that there is a new level of discrimination in the US not based on your ethnic background but that you are unemployed are not. Some companies are even saying they won't even consider a person if they are unemployed. And since most of the unemployed are minorities or woman they can discriminate against them and get away with it.
Speaking of employment I had my interview yesterday but will not find out till Monday.

Catch 22. How do the unemployed become employed then?! (rhetorical question)

I request happy news in your next post, so this urge to maim someone goes away.
