BENEDICT CONFIRMED AS SMAUG in Hobbit Films

Martin Freeman will play the lead character Bilbo Baggins, and now Benedict Cumberbatch has been confirmed as his greatest nemesis, the iconic Dragon Smaug. Benedict will lend his voice and motion capture for the CGI character. He also has a second voice role as 'The Necromancer.'

Oh this is great news! When Martin made the initial statement, I was trying to figure out where Benedict would be cast and was thinking about Smaug as being a wonderful role :) So glad this is confirmed!!!

As for fic, um, not quite seeing it (bearing in mind that Smaug dirty great dragon), but hey: I read a really good Beowulf/Old spice fic the other day, never say never.
