can I ask what is with random highlights? And they don't even look like RDJ and Jude Law.

Not to mention, many fans are pointing out this resemblance:

Hmmm, the new poster does nothing for me. The gun in particular is so un-Holmesian (more of a Watson thing), at least for me. And the positioning of their heads doesn't (to me) imply intimacy. It has more of a feel of a an emotionally dis-connected pairing. And as you say, there is certainly more than a little of a resemblance to the Brokeback Mountain poster (of which the tighter composition much better conveys an intimate dynamic).

Its like they're trying to play off the romance thing without actually owning up to it. That way they can say they're not stepping on any toes.

I wish Hollywood would just get over it. It sucks that this day and age they still play these games and actors still feel they have to hide who they are or be careful about their roles. They're still arranging marriages for crying out loud. Stupid, sad and just annoying.

The thing that bothers me the most about that poster is the alienness of RDJ and Jude Law. They've photoshopped them right into the Uncanny Valley. I'm so serious; It's almost nauseating to look at them. UGH.

Also on second (ugh still ugly) glance - did they try to make RDJ look like Benedict Cumberbatch? Or is that just me?

I don't think RDJ looks like himself or like Benedict!

Wait, the Sherlock poster is 'real'? As in, some high-paid graphic designer/marketing exec made it and it's not fan art?
Wow.

They should have gotten a fan to do the poster, like um, maybe, you?

Yep, someone was probably paid a ridiculous amount of money for something fans could do MUCH better.

Is it some kind of steampunk, scifi, lens flare laden version of Sherlock Holmes? 'Cause that's kinda what it looks like. Not that some of those things would be bad necessarily...
Brokeback Baker St. wouldn't necessarily be bad either. :-)

I'm just wondering why such a white spot on RDJ's collar, my eye goes right there ... well, if you saw the first film, it has a bit of the steampunk element in the doomesday machine thingy, maybe the film would have interested me more if it had gone more that way ...

You know, I love Sherlock Holmes as a child, adored Granada, not into the Ritchie films, Jude Law did nothing for me but I never slashed Holmes Watson, Sherlock John until SHERLOCK, so huzzah Moftiss, well, really Ben and Martin, you can't fake that chemistry.

Yeha, I think it's a pretty bland, uninspiring poster that does not make me want to see it.

I supervised a MA student who was doing research on movie posters and imitations across Hollywood film history. Very cool topic.
