We were keen to resurrect the idea that (Sherlock) isn’t an unhappy man. He is alarmingly strange, possibly psychopathic, but perfectly happy! He clearly adores John, he’s not got some deep emotional problem with connecting to people, he just can’t be arsed. He’d rather be solving crimes.”

Steven Moffat on Sherlock Holmes

YES YES YES He isn’t nice because HE DOESN’T HAVE TO BE, HE’S SHERLOCK HOLMES!

YEAH! I honestly am so sick of the dominance of "Sherlock is a messed up man" trope in Sherlock BBC fics I skip many of them now. I think those three words - strange, possibly psychopathic, but perfectly happy - sums up Sherlock and why I love him right there. Plus, he adore John - awesome to have that so clearly stated!!!

John and Sherlock are kind of messed up, but they aren't the sum of their weaknesses, they overcome them. If someone can write to that, and not merely a series of symptoms then it's all good.
