I spent some of yesterday and today reading good ol' Kirk/Spock.
I enjoyed the Trek Reboot, but I'd forgotten about a sequel until news came that Benedict Cumberbatch is going to be the original villain. Now when I was a little kiddie, the Sci-Fi on tv consisted of Star Trek, (the original) Twilight Zone, Buck Rogers, Battlestar Galactica (original) UFO, Space 1999, Dr.Who. I was a big trek fan, and had I shipped, it would have been Kirk/Spock. Well, in any fandom I am in I tend to do the canonesque ships.
I never got into the latter Trek series, or the films, (I found DS9 interesting for a bit) as a kid I read all sorts of Classic Sci-Fi, Asimov a fave, Wells, for the last twenty years I've pretty much gone-off all Sci-Fi and Fantasy, exchanging it for detective stories, historic novels, biography and non-fiction, I couldn't tell you why.
I guess I'm trying to figure out why I can read current K/S and like it but I have no inclination at all to write it. That typically doesn't happen to me. I have however, found out a HUGE amount of K/S revolves around pon farr (cue music)
I can see myself writing it with Ben's character, whomever that is when the film comes out, possibly for humour as I'm not doing anything but gen these days, and of course a version of John/Martin in character will be in there somewhere.
