No spoilers on Reichenbach Fall, but the Express reports today that Mssrs, Moffat and Gatiss are thinking of making SHERLOCK into a feature film, as it might be easier with Martin and Benedict's schedules, and they see no problem with having two Sherlock Holmes feature film series out at the same time, apparently.

For my two cents, I want to see SHERLOCK as a television series, for all the people complaining we only get three 90 min eps in 18 months, what if you had to wait two-to-three years for a two-hour feature film? I think tv is more flexible, (in terms of stories to tell, making them topical and turning them around faster, not to mention doing more with less in terms of budget and staff) and I do think there is a larger audience for television than film - I also think that you can write to a higher level in tv, whereas the film is about selling the bang for your buck, you can't get more of an idea for how the two mediums work than looking at SHERLOCK on tv right now and SHERLOCK HOLMES the film: I've been so invested in the television show, whereas the film I might see when it gets to my tv screen I might not!

Completely agree with you. I think with TV, you get more time for character development (and for audience investment in them) than with movies, esp. for this kind of series. I've heard rumors of a Dr. Who movie, but even with the same actors, isn't it still just one big TV episode?

Would you say that X-Files is a good comparison, in that it worked better on TV than as a movie?

I agree and would prefer they kept it as a TV series. If it's between a movie and nothing, I would obviously take the movie, but you can just get so much more content and character development in a TV series than in a feature film, where you have to constantly focus on plot instead of messing around with little moments.
