Try to buy gas on Wednesdays, the closer you get to the weekend, the more expensive it is.
Look for shops in your area (usually grocery stores) that give points toward purchase of gas.

In small towns, a lot of stations will buy a supply of gas, set the price, and go on selling it at that price till it runs out. This can work out badly if prices have just dropped, but can definitely be in your favour if prices of taken a jump recently.
