I like SUPERNATURAL because I can get behind the characters, the great acting, the premise, the truly scary moments, the humor, spoofing of pop culture, the subversive nature of the storyline of heaven and hell, the details and care taken over effects, music, editing, to put it simply, you get a heck of lot of bang for your buck - considering this show is made on a shoestring, relative to most tv, and the production is also an anomaly for being a friendly set where the crew stay on for years (which is almost unheard of.)
Supernatural has a larger fanbase outside of the US/Canada than in it. (it is shot in Vancouver) and picked up larger audiences in it's fourth season (and in the fifth season achieved 100 shows to put it into syndication) In 2012 Supernatural fans cast millions of votes so that the show won the People's Choice Awards for Best Drama and Best Sci-Fi sadly the PCA then snubbed the show by not airing the Best Drama award (for the first time) during the broadcast, only playing a tape of Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki (Dean and Sam Winchester) accepting their awards during the red carpet preview. Makes one feel like Smiting A Bitch.
