The other day I was telling a friend that I found the Sherlock BBC fandom not welcoming, and then I had a think about why that is. The largest community on LJ for Sherlock is sherlockbbc and people tend to gravitate there like a black hole, but you'd be surprised how many great talented people no longer post there because the moderators there are so unfriendly. (incidentally I haven't posted there since 2010 and I've found it's been no loss to me in terms of meeting people and getting reactions on work. When you think about it, there are very few posts in that com compared to the size of it's membership which I notice has shrunk about 2,000)

I like to follow [livejournal.com profile] holmesian_news, which is a great resource on where to find fic all across the Sherlock Holmes spectrum, and there are plenty of nice sherlock coms out there. Here's a link to a post about sherlockbbc applying posting rules retroactively  if you don't support such behavior, vote with your feet and follow places that give fandom a good name, ne?

I love the first show, first series, and I find that most fan things that are created are really OC, and these days my appetite is for humour, casefic, and that is a very small section of fandom. I was a big fan of Holmes since I was a kid, and I consider the Brett series to be the best, so I know eventually things will calm down from Sherlock. I may like shipping Sherlock/John, but sex isn't important to me in stories these days, it's the relationship.
