Now when I was a kid, and the Apollo missions were going into space, everyone was sci-fi crazy, and the only sci-fi shows we had on my local tv were Star Trek, Space 1999, UFO and the Japanese tv show Ultraman.

I was completely enamoured of Ultraman, in a nutshell, this story is about a powerful being from another galaxy who acts as a sort of policeman, who when chasing a criminal to earth crashes his spaceship into the plane of an earthman (Hayate, played by the handsome Susumu Kurobe) Because the crash has killed Hayate, Ultraman gives the human his life force. When Hayate needs help, he can call on Ultra to become for a short time infused with incredible angel like powers.

As a kid the concept of Ultraman's compassion and sacrifice resonated with me, still does.

(and I like to think since Ultra is the size of the Chrysler building, it's Cas true form)

We all snapped into the Ultraman posture about 50 times a day there for a while when I was young. I had not thought of him for a very long time :)

Very nostalgia inducing, Ultraman has been going on now in Japan for almost 50 years, with every few years getting a new Ultra design and premise. They were never able to promote Ultraman (like Super Sentai/Power Rangers) because there was a rights dispute between a Japanese and Taiwan company, but now it's been settled in favour of the original Japanese company, so many we can get some good DVDs over here now.

My sister and I rediscovered Ultra 2 years back, now I can get all the toys from Japan I wanted as a kid, I have a remote control flying Ultraman now. :D
