Chad Everett, the blue-eyed star of the 1970s TV series ‘‘Medical Center’’ who went on to appear in such films as ‘‘Mulholland Drive’’ died Tuesday at his home in Los Angeles at 75 after a 1½-year battle with lung cancer.

Mr. Everett played sensitive surgeon Joe Gannon for seven seasons on ‘‘Medical Center.’’ The role earned him Golden Globe nominations in 1971 and 1973.

With a career spanning more than 40 years, Mr. Everett guest-starred on such TV series as “Murder, She Wrote,” He most recently appeared on the TV show ”Supernatural.” as older Dean Winchester.

I did enjoy seeing him again in the work he did in his later years. He had always wanted to be more than handsome and those parts allowed him some really good stretching room.

I remember seeing him on tv when I was very young, mostly re-runs on daytime tv, and when he was in SPN I kept thinking, I know this guy, so yeah, I'm glad that he was able to expand his roles, and I really hope he didnt' suffer too much, I lost a parent to cancer, so ...

I believe I read he was diagnosed with it about 18 months ago. I also lost a parent to cancer and have dealt with it myself.
