First the Good News

My computer is not dead. I had a bit of a scare and had to run to Best Buy, where Geek Squad found the problem and fixed at no charge. (yeah, because I can't afford anything) but I did go into some serious panic and withdrawal for a few hours)

Bad News

Robert Pattison cast as T.E. Lawrence in new film 'Queen of the Desert' the title probably referring to TEL's friend the archaeologist Gertrude Bell. (and people could use a reminder of her) Wtf Pattison as a casting choice? He doesn't seem to me to have the bearing or erudition required for the part (and bears no physical resemblance in the slightest.) I still mourn what Leslie Howard could have done with the role. And my first choice for a Brit actor to play TE would be Laurence Fox (Sgt Hathaway on the series Inspector Lewis) Oh well ...

Now Tom Hiddleston as Lawrence......

Woah! Lawrence of Arabia??

I second Tom Hiddleston.

Patterson is young enough, if you want a young Lawrence. But you're right in that he doesn't resemble Lawrence any, nor being British.

I didn't watch Twilight, nor read the books, so I have no idea of his acting ability. (All I know is that crap books getting published gives hope to aspiring writers. ^_~!)

Hmmm now for some reason, I'm trying to remember the British actor in "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" who said he had to have a vocal coach to regain his British accent, as he'd had so many non-Brit roles. (He actually lost his British accent. LOL!)

Actually, Robert is a Brit, born in London anyway.

I think you are remembering Gary Oldman, who played Smiley, he did say another time he was happy to play a Brit for a change.

For me Peter O'Toole was the quintessential Lawrence of Arabia - he even looked like him. And yes, I can see Tom Hiddleston playing the part; but Robert Pattison - no, don't think so. And considering T.E. Lawrence's supposed sexual orientation I think the film title may need to be re-worked.

You can't get away from O'Toole as TEL, as a Lawrence scholar (studying his life for 20+years) his sexuality (leaning toward asexual) is difficult to pin down, and I'm not one for going backward in history to 'claim' a famous person for this or that.

but the film is about Gertude Bell, so the title shouldn't be an issue, the role is possibly (if it's accurate at all) a cameo or minor supporting role.

Glad your computer's not dead. Anytime mine acts up, I start having PTSD-ish flashbacks...sad commentary on my level of tech dependence, I suppose. :-P

Pattinson? Really? Just, ewww. Seriously, wtf?
