Fix My Nose

Dash-chan was up at FOUR AM whining a bit, and when I told him to go to sleep, this is what he said 'cos he has a cold'. He seemed to think rubbing a bit of Vicks on his chest did the trick.

I don't know exactly how you teach a child to blow his nose, he keeps sniffing in.

Can you hold a candle in front of his nose and ask him to make the flame waver?

Lit flame near sons face, not a good idea. Besides, he'd just blow it out with his mouth.

Ah, yes. Must be careful of little boys. Is there something you can use to show him how he can "move air"?

A tissue moved away just a bit so that he can move with his just the air from his nose? So that he can puff and puff and puff to get the concept of blowing out? Maybe with a little treat incentive to get a miserable (sick) little boy to play when he is not in the mood for it?

Just by using his nasal air, of course :) I used that years ago to teach my daughter how to blow out.

Anytime he sees a candle, he has to blow it out, I put them up out of reach, he gets a chair, so now I use candle warmers!

For some reason Nibkun cannot manage to do a proper blow either, only a tiny puff and that was after lots of practice. The only thing we were recommended to do, that allowed him to sleep was to prop up his pillows so the nasal passages would drain better. Some cold remedy to relieve swelling the nasal cavity will probably make him feel as if he can breathe better quite quickly too, so the Vicks was a good idea.
