if you follow the paintbrush with your eyes while not moving your head, it forces you to use emdr which is a therapeutic technique to calm anxiety/panic. watching fish swim causes the same effect.
I've done some EMDR and another thing that can help sometimes is when you walk down a street (or similar) you move your eyes back and forth from the other side, back to your side and again - it creates teh same back and forth motion (as long as you always cross over the median) - know what I mean? It's GREAT for calming me when I'm on the way somewhere. I park a little further away and then do this on my way in.
Wanted to follow up on EMDR and the moving paintbrush. I've been using it daily and also starting reading up on EMDR and it seems to be a good strategy for me combined with mindfulness and NLP. Thank you for sharing this - I knew about the method, but not the actual name. We even have an EMDR Canadian association.
