My bro dropped off the box set, and I watched the first four eps. It's an interesting series, great production values, really worth watching for Peter Dinklage alone. It's pretty impressive how they weave all the narratives together. That said, I don't know that I will go back and watch them again. And I don't know that I'd ever get into the fandom. I used to read fantasy when I was a kid (weaned on Tolkien) and the problem with reading Tolkien first, everything tends to pale in comparison. Now my bro was into the books from wayyy back, and while he enjoys the books, (and the show) he does think the nudity is very much beside the point, and I get where he's coming from - for example, he thought I'd like the series because there is a depiction of two male lovers, (though it stops pretty quick, unlike the girl on girl and girl on guy sex) but I said, you know, it's not about the fact of two guys, because I have no connection to this pair, (unlike the pairs I do ship) and I don't find either guy attractive! And the one gay character is a bit stereotypical. Where I find the show most interesting is the depiction of female power - through marriage, through sexual charm, and even some magic, if anything keeps me watching, it's to see what happens with the gals on this show.

I have friends who are trying so hard to get me to watch this show. I feel like it's only inevitable that I may someday crack and have a marathon viewing of it, heh. Awesome ladies for the win!

I do enjoy the TV series but the books are way better - the TV series can only really touch on key points as the narrative world is so complex and deep - sort of the issues with trying to make LOTR into a film series, and those were short books compared to Game of Thrones. I also watch it mainly for Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) but when Brienne gets introduced - wow she is just my fave female character ever :) Season 3 and 4 (3 is currently airing) are based on book 3, which is the real intense game changing book of the 7 (only 5 are written and book 4 and 5 were originally 1 book). Most popular book of them all with fans. So this is my fave season of them all :)

But I don't engage with the fandom at all.

Yeah, I heard that the biggest fandom site is virulently anti-slash, which would put me off right away. It's not that I even have to read slash, but if I heard a site was anti-anything, it would put me off.
