A former Billings Senior High School teacher who pleaded guilty to raping a 14-year-old student who later killed herself has been sentenced to 30 days in jail by a judge who said the victim was "older than her chronological age" and "as much in control of the situation" as the teacher.

District Judge G. Todd Baugh sentenced Stacey Dean Rambold to 15 years in prison for sexual intercourse without consent, with all but 31 days suspended. He gave Rambold credit for one day already served, The Billings Gazette reported.

The girl's mother repeatedly screamed, "You people suck!" and stormed out of the courtroom Monday.

Seriously? a child who IS UNDER THE AGE OF CONSENT, who is being controlled by a man who is in a position of authority over her, who was 49 years old at the time, was 'as much in control of the situation?'

... I am shocked and horrified. That poor child, and her poor mother.

I commented on this when Ginmar put it up. He flunked out of rehab, too, which means he'll probably go right out and do it again.

yeah, he was going to get off if he did the rehab, but he stopped going and started meeting up with female minors in private, which broke the conditions of his probation - thing is, he's just getting 30 days in jail, with no condition for rehab after, he does the 30 days, he'd done, because apparently, having lost his job, his house and his wife is punishment enough ... meanwhile, a girl is dead.

Sure, consider what it did to his life. (We wouldn't want to ruin that, now, would we? So now, he needs to move on, right? Grrr!

No! He was actually fired for this? He no longer has his nice home? He no longer has a wife to hide behind? His own life has been damaged by his illegal, violent, monstrous actions?

Poor rapist pedophile. My heart bleeds.

The rapist needs to serve the maximum sentence under the law, and the judge needs to be his cell mate for the entire sentence.

She was under the age of consent so regardless of whether the sex was consensual it was still ILLEGAL.

Because she wasn't covered in cuts and bruise's ("it wasn't a forcible beat up rape") therefore it was consensual?

He dropped out of rehab and was in contact with other minors - he should have gone straight to jail for not complying with the prosecutors agreement.

And now he's complaining that his life has been wrecked???

The judge isn't much better than the rapist with his remarks - reading the article it seems that he was blaming the victim for leading the teacher on.
