DC has had Wonder Woman among their superhero ranks since 1941. She has to be the most well-known comic book heroine and animated feminist icon of all time. And you could probably count on one hand the number of writers who've gotten her character right over the decades, who haven't tried to either downplay or totally remove her equal-to-Superman powers, dumb her down when she was gifted with the wisdom of the Greek gods, or turn her emotions into a weakness when they're supposed to be her greatest strength.
I was just reading something in regards to Wonder Woman, actually. Writers have this ridiculous idea that the WW comics are being marketed to boys, so their main goals are to keep her exciting (punching out bad guys while wearing a strapless bustier and heels) without being too intimidating (she can't be a better diplomat, or tactician, or really better at anything than her male peers). It's a given that she's going to be sexy and in skintight clothes - so are the males - but only with WW is her sex appeal something that has to be balanced AGAINST her brains, muscles, and even her heart.
I'll always love her, and Supes and Bats, but yeah, DC has been stupid in regards to female characters for quite some time now, and there's really no excuse at this point, especially when they have the ultimate heroine to work with. No wonder Marvel's whipping their tails.
