Joss Whedon originally intended for the Avengers film to be told from Steve's (Captain America) point of view.

Huh, I've never seen this.

I personally prefer the movie version we got, because it's a story of a team, and maybe shouldn't be told from just one team member's POV. Still, this is a great scene. I kind of wish they'd kept it.

I suppose that wistful, lost boy atmosphere wouldn't really have fit with the final version, but it's great to see this now.
