In canon Irene is American from New Jersey, an opera singer, and I thought you know, Queen Latifah is American, a real Jersey girl, she can act (Golden Globe, Screen Actor's Guild, Academy Award nom) and sing, (Grammy Award winner) she's mature, she's witty and edgy and smart and curvey and sexy and GOD WOULD SHE AND BENEDICT MAKE A FANTASTIC ONSCREEN COUPLE!

Of course, she could pull off genius.

I am a bit disappointed that the casting went British - and her appearance reminds me of RDJ Irene that's nothing against the actress they chose, I'm sure she'll be fine, maybe they are going with Irene-as-female-Sherlock in all respects, etc - that doesn't stop me from writing the Queen in, and yes they flirt, but we know Sherlock is married to his work, and er, his partner in that work, (coughJohncough)

Psh, that picture's been airbrushed to hell and back. I saw her at the airport about a month or two ago, she's the same size she was.

Well, all publicity photos (and I think this is for Covergirl) are shopped to a degree, but having looked at a bunch, her face is still her face.

Well, yeah, and she is fabulous, but that picture has been majorly tweeked. They smooth out any flaws, suck in areas, that sort of thing. They're careful to keep it looking like the same person.

Yeah, bit odd... but they do it with everyone. They remove any lines, make people smooth and tan, suck in the waist, puff up the boobs, and generally make every woman feel inadequate.

I absolutely approve of your brainworkings here! And, yes, it would have been nice to actually have an American playing that part (this one, in fact, but yeah...) I, too, hope they do a good job with NOT making this Irene a bad copy of the RDJ/JL Movie's Irene.

I would love her to be that in SHERLOCK! I adore the Queen ^__^ The modern day contemporary setting would be excellent for showcasing a strong black female lead. The thought of Queen Irene outwitting Benedict flavour Sherlock is fabulously delicious.
