The Sherlock Holmes Rose.

"What a lovely thing a rose is! [...] Our highest assurance of the goodness of Providence seems to me to rest in the flowers. All other things, our powers our desires, our food, are all really necessary for our existence in the first instance. But this rose is an extra. Its smell and its colour are an embellishment of life, not a condition of it. It is only goodness which gives extras, and so I say again that we have much to hope from the flowers."

I think they are supposed to have a spicy scent, which would be lovely.

I grow roses on my small balcony garden, but I sincerely hope to have a real garden one day with that rose in it. The quote is one of my favourite quotes ever, not just from Sherlock Holmes! Thanks for the beautiful photo.:)

Harkness do the best roses. Seriously. Everyone over here waxes lyrical about David Austin, but Harkness are soooo much better.

That rose looks awfully like a ochre version of the Natasha Richardson Rose they launched at Chelsea this year D:

I love the old fashioned style roses, I would love to grow these, if I'm in the right region, I love orange roses, I hear they have a spicy scent too.

Is it too cold/snowy where you are then?

I've never really noticed much of a difference in the "scents" of coloured roses. However, Harkness is saying that rose is only Scent Category 3... which is... well, next to nothing unfortunately.
I got this rose (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/405/rachaelrose.jpg/) from Harkness last year and she survived through the snow we had in February...
So you could try keeping Hybrid Teas? There are sooo many types and colours and they tend to have quite strong scents. That's a 8 or 9 I think C:

Yeah, I'm near Canada, so it's really cold here.

Yeah, I'd say if anything, try a hybrid tea, but don't take my word for it.
There are "hardy" roses being bred commonly nowadays, so I'm sure you can find something ^_^

...near Canada...? DO YOU GET MOOSE?

we have moose and bear but they usually don't come this far south into the cities, every once and a while, though.

That was one of my absolute favorite SH quotes. I LOVED Jeremy Brett's depiction of that scene.
