Yup, you heard that right - studio-based Timberman/Beverly Prods a modern take on the cases of the pipe-smoking (private eye?) created by Arthur Conan Doyle, with Sherlock now living in New York City. Veteran Medium writer-producer Doherty wrote the script and is executive producing the project with Sarah Timberman & Carl Beverly.

Seriously, if this is made and picked up I will watch this train wreck with glee. How old will Holmes be I wonder? Will he even be British? Will Watson be a doctor and a soldier and possibly female? Will they have a dog? Will Lestrade be African-American? Of course, right off the bat, they annoy me with 'private eye'.

Oh seriously??!! Wow, this just sounds like such a very very BAD idea no matter what my brain tries to come up with that might be even slightly positive.

Yeah, I mean, I wondered about the Sherlock idea to begin with, but then it was a British production, set in England with known producers and writers, I'll have to look this company up to see what they've done.

It might be really bad or really good. I'm leaning towards really bad.

Though I will admit that was wrong about the reboot of Hawaii Five-O. I love it. :) I just can't see it with Elementary since we already have a wonderful modern adaption.

I already feel sorry for the writers and actors who have to compete with one of the best television productions in decades.

lol ~ American versions of British characters and/or films/series, can sometimes be quite ghastly. This one sounds like it might be good for a laugh, but really..."private eye"? I envision a cross between a typical US police procedural (complete with gory "morgue" scenes, car chases and gun fights) and Bogart as Sam Spade. That said, Holmes will probably be cast as a young American 20-something, and everyone will be overly pretty. *chuckle*

Now....if they had set this in 19th century New York, I think it could have been rather interesting. But modern?

Ah, I think the BBC is doing a show about 19th century police in NY called 'Copper'

Pretty much, yeah. But not a lot of pilots even get to air, might be fun in an awful train-wreck way.

Everything the US tries to redo pretty much bites, be it British TV (so far I have yet to see anything good) or Asian Horror Films or whatever. Train wreck I think may be putting it lightly.

We Americans just can't take foreign people making amazing things that we think we could be doing, I guess. Maybe it could be like "The Office," of which I enjoyed both the British and American versions. I'm not too optimistic.

The Office was a concept sold by it's creator to other countries, but this Sherlock Holmes adaptation has nothing to do with SHERLOCK.

Well the first time the Americans took a stab at a Sherlock Holmes TV series it wasn't too bad, I still enjoy the Ronald Howard ones. Some of the 39 episodes they made were quite fun, even if they were out of context and silly like Sherlock investigating Texas Cowgirls.

I guess it depends exactly HOW modern they will make it, modern for context and freshness or modern because it will sell and it's easier than getting period locations in the US. Hey because it's 2012 we will make sure we have plenty of minorities, a coffee shop set, a token alternative chick, and plenty of relevant puns with modern street language. "Hey Sherlock, you izz smarter than Google dude!"

I just wonder how much it will be grounded in the stories, or if it's along the lines of House, in which case, you can watch House.

Good Lord. Why am I not all that surprised... Oh, this is going to be so bad. So so bad. No offence but American production companies need to stop 'adapting' from other countries, they never seem to get it right.

And with the expectations being in the sky thanks to the BBC version... :D
