When Employers ask for your Facebook (or other social media site) passwords

You Can Say No.

Facebook’s Terms of Service is a contract that requires you to NOT divulge your info. To do so could open you to legal action by Facebook.

Your social media accounts contains information on your sexuality, religion and political affiliation which is a violation of federal law, employers are not allowed to ask these questions in interviews.

Facebook's TOS violate Canadian privacy laws to begin with - and the reaction up here to that news story from the USA has been jaw dropping shock that possible employers would request this. We have not had this happen in Canada, at least that anyone has spoken out about.

It's crazy, I've known people who've been reprimanded at work for things they said on social media sites, and they didn't even know that their employers were looking.

If your employer asks for your Facebook/forum passwords, I think it's time to find a different job.

The place I used to work at had a very strict policy about sharing photos on sites like that, and I definitely understand why. Just have to keep the company name off your profile and out of every conversation you have.

sharing photos of what though? Yourself in private life or from work? From work I would understand.

My friend made a comment about food in the workplace caf and got reprimanded for that, but I don't know if she mentioned where she worked.
