On the one hand, it's nice to see this show marketed the way it should have been years ago. On the other hand, it's like the WB is scrambling to squeeze as much money as they can out of this series before it ends its run, because the WB has finally realized they've been sitting on a cult hit merchandising cash cow all this time.
But if the stories of the WB suddenly suing fans who've spent the last nine years selling their own homemade SPN stuff are true, then the WB sure is being a bunch of craven dicks about this eleventh-hour realization that SPN is a valuable commodity.
are the WB seriously doing C and D's? That does suck. As did the 'fan contest' shirts that were only sold for a day each. They really owe everything to the fan base, and seem to not know how to connect with them.
This was the post where I read it: http://all-spn.livejournal.com/5317523.html
I don't know a damned thing about downloading (except how else are fans in England going to see the show as it airs now?), but the part about the artist getting slammed was what got me. I think that just because the WB is just waking up and realizing they've missed out on nine years of merchandising revenue doesn't mean they should now slam the people who made that money instead.
Ah the issue here isn't the CW or WB at all, it's a particularly German thing where a company can say 'you have to pay us $20' or we may take you to court, it's basically a scam, people who don't know their rights are paying, when really they don't have to.
Same with the fanart, the person was specifically using Supernatural in the title to promote it and WB said stop, they didn't actually say not to sell the work.
