one trashy comic arc cannot destroy a character who’s been built up over 75 years, continue to blog, write to Marvel, write to Disney, think up a campaign, but I’m not going to be made guilty for wearing a Shield backpack.

CAP IS NOT HYDRA, he belongs to US and you ARE NOT TAKING HIM AWAY!

I don't even know you well, Karadin but I do not see anyone being able to make you feel guilty for your choices. They can piss you off but the making you feel guilty part I simply do not see that happening.

I've had so many messages from friends saying they don't want to wear their Cap gear anymore because it's now associated with Nazis, this makes me So Mad. Most of my kid's wardrobe in Cap, not to mention his room, and the idea of disappointing him is making me furious.

I can only be glad that not many people read comics, the amount is about 3million and hasn't changed in decades, and far more people know and associate the symbol with the movie verse.

I'm just so peeved that Marvel's way of getting attention (and on the day the new DC stuff came out) was to make 'Cap Evil Nazi' it's such a cheap tawdry stunt, and very offensive to most fans, particularly Jewish fans. In these times we need Cap as a symbol of freedom and tolerance, not making him into a mouthpiece for right wing racists.

It is a form of blasphemy, is it not, to do this to such a noble character?

I did not know the entirety of the issue so the Nazi part of it was not known to me.

It seems especially egregious in timing since we are approaching Memorial Day.

I will be honest with you and say that I do not have much personally invested in this character or the films but I will most definitely write and protest on behalf of your lovely son.

This infuriates me! What a horrible (and yes, very offensive) thing to do to such an heroic and iconic American character - especially when Cap was invented as an anti-Nazi symbol. Truly disgusting.

I feel very badly for you and your son, and other Cap fans.

luckily, because my son doesn't read the comics, he won't be affected, unless someone tells him Cap is a Nazi, he'd probably just say 'no he isn't' and carry on.

But i'd like to think that as of Winter Soldier (the film) Cap was less about the US than ideals that the US used to personify, he stood up to the Secretary of State in that film and fought against elements of his own government when he thought they were wrong. I think maybe that's why, honestly, in the films, they've toned the flag elements in the costume down a bit, focused more on the single star.

I'm glad that your son will be okay.

Winter Soldier was very good - I liked Cap's depiction in that one - as you say, fighting for "classic" American ideals that should still be personified, including standing up to certain elements of the government when necessary, etc.

Mind you, I'm not really a fan per si of the Marvel comic world, but I appreciate Cap's character as he was originally intended to be (ie prior to this newest "twist" in the comics). Also, I hate to see all his admirers and fans disappointed and upset - I empathize strongly with them.
